The difference
Although both regular and premium are gasoline fuels of the same category the difference lies in the level of octanes. Regular fuel has 87 octanes while premium has 91 or 93 octanes. The value of higher octane enables higher compression ratios, turbocharging, and downsizing/down speeding. Higher octane value creates better engine performance.
Why use the correct gasoline
Today’s vehicles are mostly configured for regular fuel. Although you can fill the vehicle with premium, we wouldn’t recommend it. Why? You are mostly killing your own machine by doing so. According to automobile engineers, premium gas is best for certain engines with higher performance ratios. Also, high octane fuel can complement some engines better.
Vehicle type matters when you select the fuel. For normal private vehicles for daily usage, regular fuels provide good performance and fuel efficiency. High octane fuel, unless the company recommends it, will have little effect on the performance. For trucks, pickups, or other commercial vehicles, high octane fuel can improve performance and gas mileage, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
What is important than octane value
Yes, high octane can boost performance – but only on a case-by-case basis. So why pay more money and make your engine worse – even if it is an affordable difference of 50 cents per gallon. In a consumer notice, the Federal Trade Commission, notes: “In most cases, using a higher-octane gasoline than your owner’s manual recommends offers absolutely no benefit. It won’t make your car perform better, go faster, get better mileage, or run cleaner.”
Detergent additive in the gasoline matters more than the octane value. It keeps the engine cleaner, optimizes performance, and grants engine longevity. Each additive manufacturer offers a combination of agents in their product that can increase engine performance. Brands like BMW, General Motors, Audi, etc have their own premium products on the shelf.

Whether it is regular or premium fuel, what you select for your vehicle is your own choice.
